Automobilista 2 V1.6.9.95 Released With New AI Controls and Panoz Esperante GTR-1
Reiza Studios has launched the latest update for Automobilista 2, introducing granular AI skill adjustments, manually crafted racing lines for major circuits, and a new GT1 car.
Reiza Studios has released Automobilista 2 V1.6.9.95, an update that introduces substantial improvements to AI behavior, physics revisions, and a new vehicle. The patch is now live on Steam, bringing a free addition to the GT1 class in the form of the Panoz Esperante GTR-1. For simulation users, the release focuses on refining how artificial intelligence interacts with track limits and weather conditions, while also providing new tools for players to customize their racing experience.
Granular AI Skill Adjustments
A primary focus of V1.6.9.95 is the introduction of new AI Traction Skill and AI Brake Skill Scalars. These settings function similarly to the existing AI Wet Skill Scalar but allow users to scale AI performance specifically in traction and braking zones. This provides a layer of customization that was previously unavailable, enabling players to trim AI behavior to match their own driving style.
For example, a player who prefers late braking might adjust the AI Brake Skill Scalar to a higher value while lowering the AI Traction Skill Scalar. This configuration results in AI drivers braking later into corners and accelerating more slowly out of them compared to the default 1.0 setting. However, Reiza Studios notes that these new scalars are less sensitive than the AI Wet Scalar. Significant adjustments may be required to achieve noticeable results, as the main AI Skill setting remains the primary driver of overall performance. The new options serve to fine-tune specific aspects rather than redefine the AI’s core capabilities.
Users are advised to exercise caution when using these new controls. Running very high or inversely proportionate scalars relative to the main AI Skill setting is generally not recommended, as it may lead to an increased rate of AI incidents. The goal is to create a more natural racing flow rather than to create unpredictable or overly aggressive opponents.
Manually Crafted Racing Lines
The update also introduces AI Dynamic Dry and Wet Lines for a select list of Grade 1 and 2 circuits. These tracks feature manually crafted alternative dry paths and wet AI paths, which are designed to be more organic than the self-generated lines used on other tracks. The alternative dry path, along with the primary path, defines a range of viable lines AI drivers may take when not interfered with by traffic. The wet path defines the ideal line when the track is fully wet.
The list of supported tracks includes major circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans, Monza, Interlagos, and the Nurburgring, among others. However, the logic for when and how AI drivers pursue alternative dry lines is still in development. For this release, little of this functionality is enabled for the sake of reliability. Reiza Studios indicates that most of the value from this feature will arrive with AMS2 V1.7 later in the year. Conversely, the logic for wet lines is already at a more elaborate state. As a result, dry-wet-dry races currently offer a better reference for the improved AI dynamics that users can expect once these developments are fully integrated.
Physics Revisions and General Improvements
As of V1.6.9.95, most classes have either received full V1.7 physics revisions or are in a very advanced state of development. Exceptions include GT Classics, TC Vintages, TSI Cup, Caterham models, Karting classes, Rallycross, and several Stock Car and Truck classes. The update includes further tire tread and aero adjustments for classes previously under revision, as well as a fix for an issue where hybrid batteries would continue to recharge when the engine was off.
General improvements include a new ‘Same Class’ private qualifying option for all game modes and user-configurable qualifying rules for single race and multiplayer events without requiring presets. CPU performance during transitions between weather slots has also been improved, and several crash-to-desktop sources in multiplayer mode have been fixed. The update addresses various UI and HUD issues, including the addition of Parc Ferme and Qualifying Session Rules blocks to the in-game pre-event screen.
Rollback Option
Users who encounter issues with the new V1.6.9.95 or have an imminent league race to run can remain on the previous V1.6.9.91 build. This can be done by right-clicking on AMS2 in the Steam library, selecting Properties, navigating to the Beta tab, and selecting the previous build branch. This option provides a safety net for competitive users who require stability during scheduled events.
The release of V1.6.9.95 represents a significant step in the ongoing development of Automobilista 2, with further improvements planned for the upcoming V1.7 update.
