SCS Software has announced that Bristol will become a new city within the UK Rework project for Euro Truck Simulator 2. The addition brings the historic south-western city into the game’s map, emphasizing its maritime heritage and industrial character. For simulation users, this expansion introduces a distinct geographic region that serves as a gateway between England and South Wales, altering the routing options available in the southern part of the United Kingdom.

The development team describes Bristol as a city shaped by its connection to water, specifically the River Avon and the Severn Estuary. Historically, the city grew as one of Britain’s most important ports, playing a major role in maritime trade and engineering. In the game, this history is reflected in the layout of the new area, which is divided into two primary zones: the city centre with its surrounding road network, and the harbour and logistics area. This division mirrors the real-world functional split between urban residential and commercial spaces and the industrial port infrastructure.

Currently, the recreation is in early development. SCS Software notes that while the entire city is still being built, the city centre portion is progressing well. Players can expect to navigate a variety of specific road networks, including Brunel Way, the A4, Hotwell Road, Merchants Road, and the A4018. These routes are designed to offer views across different parts of the city, ranging from residential streets to riverside scenery. The inclusion of these specific roads provides a framework for the driving experience, connecting the various landmarks and areas of interest within the new map section.

A central feature of the new Bristol map is the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Spanning the Avon Gorge, the bridge is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, it has overlooked the city since the 19th century. In the simulation, the bridge can be seen from parts of the road network around the River Avon, integrating a key historical structure into the driving environment. Brunel’s influence extends beyond the bridge to the harbour area, where the SS Great Britain is featured. Launched in Bristol in 1843, the ship was one of the most advanced vessels of its time and remains preserved in the city’s historic dockyard. Drivers passing through this area will be able to spot the ship and view Bristol Marina, adding a layer of historical detail to the harbour zone.

Beyond the waterfront, the city centre recreation includes several other notable landmarks. Cabot Tower, which stands above the city on Brandon Hill, is included in the map. The Wills Memorial Building, a distinctive structure and part of the University of Bristol, is also present. Additionally, Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital can be seen along the route through the city. These elements contribute to the visual fidelity of the urban environment, aiming to recreate the distinctive character of Bristol for players to discover.

The strategic location of Bristol in the game map is significant for long-haul routes. Its proximity to the Severn Estuary places it on an important route towards South Wales, making it a natural gateway between the two regions. This positioning suggests that the new city will serve as a key hub for drivers traveling between the south-west of England and the Welsh border. The integration of these routes into the existing UK Rework infrastructure will likely affect how players plan their journeys, offering new paths and scenic drives through the south-west.

SCS Software’s map and asset teams have been working to recreate the city’s industries and landmarks. The announcement highlights the effort to bring Bristol to life, focusing on its unique identity as a port city with a rich industrial past. The inclusion of specific details, such as the preservation of the SS Great Britain and the presence of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, indicates an attempt to capture the historical essence of the location. As the development progresses, the full scope of the harbour and logistics area will be revealed, complementing the already advancing city centre.

This addition to Euro Truck Simulator 2 continues the UK Rework project, which aims to update and expand the game’s representation of the United Kingdom. By adding Bristol, SCS Software provides players with a new area that combines historical landmarks with functional road networks. The focus on maritime heritage and the connection to Wales underscores the city’s importance in the broader geographic context of the game. For users, the new map section offers a fresh environment to explore, with specific routes and landmarks that reflect the real-world character of Bristol.
